Lowell J. Herschberger

I come from a long line of Amish ministers.  My Great, Great Grandfather as well as my Great Grandfather were Amish leaders, but my Grandfather, a Bishop, led his Amish congregation out to form a slightly more progressive wing of the sect, the Amish Mennonites.  My father married this progressive Bishop's daughter and became a minister in the Amish Mennonite church and missionary to Northwestern Ontario.  That's where I grew up.

During my 20's I wandered around going to Calvary Bible School, Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute, Rosedale Bible Institute, Cedarville University, and Ohio State University where I settled on Social Work as a profession and began my career in Columbus, Ohio serving mentally ill adults in a vocational program.  About that time, I reconnected with the love of my life, Linda, and we were married in 2001.

In 2003, I felt led to move to Brooklyn, NY.  We came without a plan and God miraculously gave me the job of my dreams at Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation where I have been able to lead a suite of programs focused on job training, youth development, and economic revitalization for 18 odd years now.  Our two sons were born soon after we moved and are growing into young men.  We attend Followers of Jesus Mennonite Church.

My passions include biking, running the Brooklyn Half Marathon, living out a Gospel that is relevant to the controversial issues of our day.
